Homeowner Bio: The Montero-Hernandez-Martinez Family

“I am building because of my Family.”

Azariel Montero Hernández and his wife, Elismay Martinez, are dedicated parents striving to provide a better life for their three children—Azael (14), Aziel (11), and Emily (7). Their journey with Habitat for Humanity is a testament to their commitment to creating a safe and nurturing environment for their family. Living in a cramped 500-square-foot home, the family has faced significant challenges due to the lack of space. “One of the bedrooms is not only a bedroom, but also serves as an office and living room,” Azariel explains. The tight quarters have made privacy nearly impossible, and the children have little room to grow and play.

The decision to join the Habitat for Humanity program was a turning point for the family. Upon learning they had been accepted, Azariel felt an overwhelming sense of happiness and excitement. “I feel very happy and excited to go on our homeownership journey,” he shares. The opportunity to build their own home represents more than just a new house—it’s a chance to create lasting memories and provide their children with the space they need to thrive. “I imagine having more privacy and enough space for the kids to play in the yard,” Azariel envisions.

Earning sweat equity and working on build sites is something Azariel eagerly anticipates. “I think it is going to be entertaining and fun,” he says. For Azariel and Elismay, this journey is about more than just constructing a physical structure; it’s about building a foundation for their family’s happiness and well-being.

Looking forward to their new home, Azariel and Elismay are most excited about the space it will provide. “Our house will be our home, a place where we all are,” Azariel says with pride. The new home will offer the family the room they need to live comfortably and enjoy each other’s company. “Home is where we all are,” he adds, emphasizing the importance of togetherness and love in their family life.
