Latoya Suggs has dedicated the past three years to serving others as a Patient Access Representative at BayCare. A proud mother of two, she is devoted to raising her children with faith, love, and resilience. Her son, Garrick, 18, has a love for nature and enjoys playing video games in his free time. Her daughter, Garryn, 15, loves all things fashion, shopping, hair, and nails. Both enjoy spending time with their friends, but their favorite moments are the ones they share together as a family.
The Suggs family is known for their closeness and strong faith. “We are strong because we pray together,” Latoya shared. They enjoy laughing, spending quality time together, and encouraging one another through life’s challenges. Latoya works hard—seven days a week—yet always makes time to listen to her children and ensure their voices are heard. “We are not perfect, but we are perfect for each other,” she said.
Housing, however, has been a struggle. The family currently lives in a small two-bedroom apartment where space is tight, and bills combined with high rent often leave Latoya fearful of becoming homeless again. When she learned she had been accepted into the Habitat program, it was an emotional moment. “My first thought was wow—I got accepted after my daddy passed. My second thought was that he would be proud because we talked often about me getting a home,” she reflected.
“Home is where my children feel safe and free to be who they want to be,” Latoya said. “I want to take part in making our dream of homeownership come true.” For Latoya, this home will be more than just shelter. She dreams of a garden where they can grow food, space to welcome friends and family, and—most importantly—rooms for her children of their own.
