“Homeownership means security, stability, and the chance to give my son the future he deserves.”
Monica Yun is a devoted single mother and hardworking professional who has built her life around determination, resilience, and family. For the past five years, she has balanced two jobs—working as a waitress at Thai Star Sushi Bar and as a licensed nail technician—always keeping her son’s future at the center of everything she does. Monica has faced challenges, but she continues to push forward with a spirit of perseverance, leaning on her strong family bonds and her deep commitment to creating stability for her son.
Her son, Alvin, is a bright, energetic 15-year-old with a passion for the outdoors, especially fishing. He spends much of his free time on the water, catching, cleaning, and cooking his favorite fish—sheepshead and trout. Fishing isn’t just a hobby for Alvin; it’s a passion that has taught him patience, discipline, and joy, and he dreams of one day turning it into a career by running his own fishing charter. Even while staying committed to his studies—on track to graduate high school early—Alvin still makes time for the hobby that brings him the most peace.
When Monica learned that she had been accepted into the Habitat program, she was overwhelmed with gratitude. “I was filled with so much joy and relief,” she recalls. For her, homeownership means more than just having a house—it represents security, stability, and a future filled with opportunities. She looks forward to building a place where she and Alvin can grow, rest, and thrive, without the uncertainty of rising rent or the limitations of overcrowded housing.
With Habitat’s support, Monica and Alvin will soon have not just a house, but a true home—a place to anchor their dreams, build memories, and create the foundation for a brighter tomorrow.
