Women in Construction Week: Amber Woods

Habitat Pinellas and West Pasco is excited to join the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) in celebrating Women in Construction (WIC) Week March 5th – 11th, 2023. WIC Week celebrates and promotes the role of women in the construction industry. This year’s theme, ‘Many Paths, One Mission’, celebrates the different journeys women have taken toward the same goal: strengthening and amplifying the success of women in the construction industry.

In honor of Women in Construction Week, Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas & West Pasco Counties would like to highlight an important member of our organization: Amber Woods, Construction Crew Leader. Amber joined our team in January of this year and has already proven to be an integral member of our staff.

Amber was drawn to the construction field as a part of a spiritual journey. “Jesus was a carpenter,” she says. “Each part of building a home has spiritual significance. I think he knew this.” Amber believes that being a woman in construction is empowering. “I’m always proud to brag about my job! I also love encouraging other women, even my own daughters, to consider this career path.”

“Working for Habitat is food for my soul,” Amber explains. “Owning property is a part of the American Dream. There was a time where women weren’t able to own property at all. In celebrating Women in Construction week, I would remiss if I didn’t point our the fact that Habitat has leveled the playing field for us in particular as most of our HOCs are women. It is special to me to be a part of this.”

Amber’s advice to young girls who want to work in construction in the future is to go for it! “The industry is waiting for more brave women. There’s plenty of room for our unique perspectives in the field.”
