Staff Positivity Update: Rebekah Nelson

Here at Habitat, we understand that these uncertain times can be difficult for everyone. As our staff works remotely for the next couple of weeks, we will be sharing how the Habitat team is staying positive during these changing times.

Rebekah, Special Event Coordinator, has grown her family during this time by rescuing a dog, Biscuit!

“My fiance, Michael, and I have decided to stay “pawsitive” during this difficult time. We have been talking about getting a dog for a while, and with the recent news of everyone staying home, we knew it would be a perfect opportunity to rescue a dog and get him acclimated to his new home with us. We saw a posting online for a four-year-old yellow Labrador that was needed to be rehomed and was not being taken well care of. We jumped at the opportunity, and it has been the best thing! We renamed him Biscuit, and have seen his personality come out each and every day. He is such a good boy! Biscuit loves going on walks, snuggling with us, and playing with his new toys!”

With travel concerns in place, her sister, Reilley, has been staying with her. “My sister has been a big help with organizing our new place and helping me wedding plan for my February 2021 wedding! We do a little each day so it is not too much/overwhelming.”

“One of my favorite dinner recipes has been chicken with yellow rice. I cook the chicken breast in the crockpot with a can of mushroom soup and then serve with yellow rice. It is super easy, and makes the house smell so good all day!”

Some things they have been doing at home include playing Game of Thrones Monopoly, and virtually staying in touch with friends and family. “My best friend from home has decided to do “Spirit Month” where every day there is a dress up theme to get you through the day. It has been so much fun dressing up each day, and seeing her friends and family participating from all over the country too! ”

Working remotely can be a big change for many, but Rebekah has found out a routine that works for them. “Since Michael and I are both working from home, and Reilley is doing school work, we have made different “offices” throughout our apartment. We rotate throughout the day, so we are not in one spot for too long. I think it is important to take some break from the screens too- whether it is to eat lunch, or take a walk and get some fresh air. We agree on times during the day for a break and all take the break together!”
