Homeowner Bio: The Witherspoon Family

“I am building because I want my children, and their children, to know that homeownership is attainable.”

Taisja Witherspoon is a Teacher at Bayside High School in Clearwater who is working towards her dream of homeownership. She is a single mother to a three-year-old son, Xavier. Taisja centers her life around faith and her son. “Xavier loves to play,” said Taisja. “He loves vehicles of any kind. He loves going to the park and swimming.” Taisja has always believed that Home is made by the family and the love they share. Being able to gather with family is what makes Taisja happy. She is hoping that one day soon her family will be able to gather in her forever Home.

Right now, Taisja and her son are living in a crowded situation. “Right now we have an overcrowding issue,” said Taisja. “I live with my mom, my brother, my grandmother, and my son. There are only 3 bedrooms in the home and my son and I don’t have a bedroom.” Taisja is focused on working towards affordable homeownership to give her son the proper space to grow. Getting accepted into the Habitat program became a big mission. The day she received her certificate she knew life was going to change forever. “I immediately thought that my life, my son’s life was about to have a very different path.”

Taisja cannot wait to be able to welcome her family into her Home and host her loved ones for all different kinds of events. “Just to have a place to call my own and know that I am building generational wealth is so important,” said Taisja. “I want my children, and their children, to know that homeownership is attainable.” Taisja encourages anyone thinking about applying to the Habitat program to do it. “I know that it is not an easy process, but it is so worth it in the end.” To learn more about the Habitat program please visit the Apply Page of our website.

“Faith can go a long way in life. I am living proof that faith can lead to great things.”
