Homeowner Bio: The Whitehead Family

“I would have never thought I would be a homeowner in my mid-twenties due to the fact that interest is so high, and the cost of living is through the roof.”

Mikasha, a CNA Health Aide, is a hardworking mother to five wonderful children. “I have experienced a lot of struggles in my life. I want to thank God for giving me the strength to become a better me, and to not let my past affect me and my children’s future.”

“My children mean everything to me. There is nothing in this world I wouldn’t do for them.” Her three daughters, Janiyah, Jada, and Jayla all enjoy cheerleading. While her two sons, Markese and Kavion, enjoy playing basketball and football. “They make me work harder each and every day, and keep my mind focused and determined.”

The family of six currently lives in a small three-bedroom home. Over the years, the family has grown, leaving less space for them to live comfortably. “When I got the email about being accepted into the program, I cried tears of joy, and thanked God. My family will finally have a safe place that we can call our own.”

“It feels great helping out other families on their homes and earning sweat equity hours at the same time. I am working towards a goal that I want for myself and for my family. A little extra help from volunteers can help people like myself keep going and reach their goals.”

“I am looking forward to a new life with my Habitat home. I will be able to raise my children in a safe home and environment that we feel comfortable in and call our own. I want to provide stability for my family. I want my kids to be able to play in a safe area, and have more family gatherings. My house will be a blessing for me and my children to make great memories in.”
