For Ja’Myra Walker, a hardworking mother of four and an account reconciliation associate at Raymond James Financial, the road to homeownership has been anything but easy. But with persistence, patience, and a heart full of hope, she is finally seeing her dream come to life through Habitat for Humanity. “When I found out I was accepted into the Habitat program, I was in a state of shock!” She shared. “I am so thankful! This really is a start to something beautiful for me and my children.”
Ja’Myra is raising her four children—Brooklyn (9), Brazill (2), and one-year-old twins Brandon and Breon—in a cramped two-bedroom apartment. “We have no space,” she explained. “No room for the babies to crawl around, my nine-year-old has no space for herself. Rent is ridiculous—it’s been a true struggle trying to accommodate me and my four children.” Despite these challenges, Ja’Myra remains grounded in her love for her family. “If there’s one word that could describe my family, it would be LOVE! The love I have for them and the love they have for one another is proof that I’m doing something right.”
Through the Habitat Homeownership Program, Ja’Myra is not only building a house—she’s building a future. “My house will be my peace! The place my children can call their own,” she said. For Ja’Myra, this home represents stability, safety, and a long-awaited dream fulfilled. “I’ve always dreamed of being a homeowner,” she said proudly. “I am a hard-working mom who does not give up on her dreams.” Her story is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when determination meets opportunity. “If it’s something you really want, don’t give up,” she encourages others.
