Homeowner Bio: The Pitts Family

“My house will be my forever home.”

Ashley Pitts has spent more than two decades caring for others. As a Certified Nursing Assistant for 23 years and a Customer Service Associate at Harbourwood Winn-Dixie for 13 years, she has built a life grounded in hard work, resilience, and love. Now, as a dedicated single mother of four, Ashley is building something even more personal—a forever home for her family, thanks to Habitat for Humanity.

Ashley currently lives in a crowded home shared with her father, Nathaniel and four children: D’Nya (18), Darrion (16), D’Asia (12), and Diamond (6). “We’re sleeping on top of each other. There’s no privacy, no room to move freely,” she shared. Darrion loves his PlayStation, D’Asia is fascinated with anime, and Diamond finds joy in dancing. “We’re a close-knit family,” Ashley said. “I love spending time with my kids.”

When she found out she had been accepted into the Habitat homeownership program, Ashley felt one overwhelming emotion: gratefulness. Although the road ahead feels a little scary, she’s filled with anticipation and hope. “I’m nervous and excited,” she admitted, “but ready to start this journey—not just for me, but for my kids and my father.”

Ashley has already begun earning sweat equity, and while she’s still early in the process, she’s eager to learn practical skills to help her care for her home. “I want to know how to keep things up and fix things around the house,” she said. Her advice to potential Habitat volunteers is simple but profound: “You’re helping build someone’s dreams.”

For Ashley, this home represents something her family has long needed: stability. “I’m most looking forward to my kids having their own space,” she said. When asked what home means to her, she didn’t hesitate: “Home is where the heart is.”
