Homeowner Bio: The Morgan Family

“My home will be a safe place, filled with memories I’ll cherish for a lifetime.”

Meet Rachel and Rita, a dynamic mother-daughter duo with a shared dream of homeownership through Habitat for Humanity. Rachel’s journey began when she moved from Jacksonville, FL during her high school years to live with her mother, Rita, whom she now financially supports. Despite their close bond, their housing situation has been uncertain, with Rachel relying on her boss/landlord’s assistance with rent, which is soon coming to an end due to property sale. Rachel reflects on her acceptance into the Habitat program, expressing, “When I got accepted into the program, I felt truly grateful. Excited. Blessed. ALL the feelings.”

For Rachel, Habitat offers more than just a house; it’s the promise of stability and security for her family’s future. “I will be able to have a forever home and not have to worry about the cost of my mortgage raising and not being able to afford somewhere to live,” she explains. With her role as the sole provider for their household, Rachel sees Habitat as an opportunity to provide a permanent residence for her and her mother.

Home, for Rachel, is more than just a physical space; it’s where cherished memories are made and where family resides. “My house will be a safe place, filled with memories I’ll cherish for a lifetime,” she affirms. Rachel is eager to share this newfound stability with her mother, who has always been her greatest supporter. “My mom has given me the world, and I can’t wait to share this with her,” Rachel says with gratitude.
