“My house will be a blessing shared with everyone I love for generations to come.”
Melissa, a devoted mother of six and a material specialist at Allegiant, has walked a path paved with perseverance, faith, and love. Life as a single parent hasn’t been easy, but her determination to give her children a stable and nurturing home has never wavered. “Thank God for the opportunity to put in hard work and dedication,” Melissa says. “To prove to myself and the children that we can make anything happen when we believe and stay focused on a goal.”
Melissa’s children—Mya (17), Cheyenne (16), Isaiah (12), Jaxson (11), Emmalynn (10), and Laylani (1)—each bring their own light and joy to the family. Despite their strong family bond, their current living space presents constant challenges. “We currently live in a 3-bedroom, 2-bath apartment, and it is overcrowded for everyone,” Melissa explains. “My oldest sleeps on the sectional most nights… and we live in a parking lot on a main road, so the kids can’t play outside.” Without adequate space or a yard, the children lack the freedom to be kids in a safe and open environment.
Being accepted into the Habitat for Humanity program has filled Melissa with hope and gratitude. “I was in shock,” she recalls. “I sat in my car and cried for a few minutes after my acceptance meeting. I’m beyond grateful for Habitat and what they do for families.” She looks forward to creating a home where each child can have their own space, enjoy holidays, and play freely in their own backyard. “I want to see the smiles on their sweet faces when they realize they finally have a place to call home.”
Melissa shares this encouragement for others: “Don’t ever think you are not worthy of better for yourself in this life. Keep your relationship with God, and your blessings will keep coming—not when you want them, but when you’re ready to receive them.”
