“Our lives will forever be changed.”
For Britnee Gunsby, a Client Service Representative at Truist and a devoted single mother, the journey to homeownership has been one filled with challenges, faith, and unwavering determination. After losing her home when her son was just 10 months old, Britnee found herself starting over from scratch. “Our home was destroyed and vandalized, and we had to move in with my parents,” she shared. “Me and my son share one bedroom and one dresser. It hasn’t been easy.” But despite those obstacles, Britnee never gave up hope.
Britnee learned about Habitat for Humanity through a friend. When she found out she was accepted into the program, she felt her prayers were finally being answered. “I was truly blessed and full of joy,” she said. “Finally, after losing everything, my hard work was starting to pay off.” For Britnee, this opportunity is more than just a roof over their heads—it’s a chance to rebuild a life centered around stability, growth, and love for her two-year-old son, Samir “I’ll finally be able to give my son a home again.”
As part of her Habitat journey, Britnee is completing sweat equity hours by helping at build sites, something she finds deeply rewarding. “I enjoy going and helping and meeting new people who share the same drive and focus,” she said. “The biggest message I’ve received is that hard work pays off—you have to stay positive and keep going.” These hours have reinforced Britnee’s values of kindness, resilience, and community support.
Britnee dreams of creating a peaceful, loving home where her son can flourish. “I’m most looking forward to spending quality time with my son—cooking, playing, just us,” she said. She sees her new home as more than just walls and windows. “My house will be a peaceful, positive home where a family loves and continues to grow. Home is where the love truly is—it’s also where foundation grows.” Britnee’s story is one of strength, grace, and gratitude. “Hard work pays off. Pay off that debt, save that money, put in the work. It’s worth it at the end.”
