“Habitat for Humanity is a true blessing to my family and I. Habitat has made our dreams come true.”
Andrea Golden, a hardworking single mother of three, is on a transformative journey to provide her family with stability and a place to call home. Andrea dedicates her time and energy to building a better future for her children—Ja’Doir (14), Jamar (12), and Kobe’ (2). “My kids are my world, and everything I do is for them,” Andrea shares. Raised by her grandmother, Andrea’s experience growing up without a close relationship with her parents has motivated her to create a tight-knit bond with her own children.
Living in rental housing has been a constant challenge for Andrea and her family. “Affording a three-bedroom home has been a struggle, especially since my landlord increases the rent by $300 every year,” she explains. Despite putting money into making her current rental more livable, there are still unresolved issues that affect her family’s health and comfort. “It’s hard to make it feel like home when it’s not really ours,” she says. Andrea dreams of a place where her children can have their own rooms and grow up in a stable, healthy environment.
After applying to Habitat for Humanity four times, Andrea’s perseverance finally paid off. “When I found out we were accepted, I thought, ‘Is this for real?’ It’s been a long journey, but I never gave up,” she recalls. Andrea sees Habitat not just as a housing program but as a life-changing opportunity. “Habitat has made our dreams come true,” she adds.
For Andrea, owning a Habitat home means breaking generational barriers and giving her children the stability she never had. “My house will be my kids’ forever home,” she says proudly. She envisions a place where her children can create memories, feel secure, and know they always have a place to return to. “I’m building because my kids deserve everything my hard work can give them,” she states. For Andrea, home is where family roots grow, and she’s ready to plant those roots with Habitat for Humanity’s support.
