Homeowner Bio: The Finnissee Family

“My house will be a sanctuary to my family and I.”

Jurene Finnissee is an Activities Director at Apollo Health and Rehabilitation Center and has worked there for 12 years. She is a single mother to two daughters, Tamia (age 13) and Jyla (age 7).  Tamia enjoys canvas painting and drawing and Jyla loves to color and create beaded crafts. Jurene says, “We are a very loving close knit family. We enjoy playing games outside and spending time with one another.”

Before applying to the Habitat for Humanity Homeownership program, Jurene was struggling to provide for her family due to the high rent prices she was paying. When she received the news that she was accepted into the program, she says that she was “excited and proud”.

Jurene is eager and excited to begin her sweat equity hours for the program. “I expect to learn how to be sufficient enough to take care of minor problems within my own household,” she tells us. In her new home, she is happy to not have to worry about rising rent prices and is excited to call her house her own.

Many of our homeowners, such as Jurene and her family, purchase their furniture from our Habitat ReStores, where new and gently used building materials and home furnishings are sold at discounted prices. Proceeds from the store go back into the program to help build more homes for families in our community. If you are interested in donating, shopping, or volunteering at our ReStores, please check out our ReStore Page on our website for more information.

“Home is where the heart is. Home is where you make it.”
