Homeowner Bio: The Copeland Family

“Don’t be scared to follow your dreams—never forget your long-term goals. One day, they will become true.”

Shauntee Copeland, a hardworking single mother and Certified Nursing Assistant, has spent the last 25 years dedicating herself to the care of others. Now, she is focusing on building a better future for herself and her 12-year-old son, Xavier. “I am a dedicated and hardworking woman. I am very down-to-earth and ambitious,” Shauntee shares. Xavier, an intelligent and talented young man, enjoys bike riding, playing basketball, and video games. “He has long-term goals, and he plans to accomplish each one,” she says proudly.

Despite her strong work ethic, finding stable and affordable housing has been a significant challenge for Shauntee and Xavier. “My need for Habitat lingers,” she explains. “I have high blood pressure and other health issues, and my current living arrangements make it challenging. I am looking for a stable environment for my son.” When she found out she was accepted into the Habitat for Humanity program, it was a life-changing moment. “My prayers have been answered. Being a homeowner is one of my long-term goals that I have been working to reach for years. My first thought was, ‘I’m finally here, at my first step to a lifetime of joy and memories.’”

For Shauntee, owning her own home means security, comfort, and a place to create lasting memories. “I imagine a warm and cozy home that my son and I can call our forever place to live,” she says. “My house will be everything I have imagined and dreamed of. It will be filled with love, joy, and memories we create together.” The excitement of the building process, the joy it will bring to her family, and the reality of having a place she can truly call her own keep her motivated. “Habitat for Humanity is one of the best decisions I could have ever made!
