Homeowner Bio: The Blanchard Family

“My dream is for my son to have a stable secure home, a backyard to play and be able to be creative as every child should.”

Kayelin Blanchard is a single mother of a 6-year-old son named Zander who is excited to partner with Habitat for Humanity to build a stable, secure home for her family. Zander enjoys Pokemon cards, video games, riding his bike, and loves to play and meet new friends. He is currently enrolled in an after-school program and practices Tae Kwon Do, working towards his green belt. Alongside everyday life, Kayelin and Zander love to explore new things and recently discovered their love for “glamping.” They enjoy adventuring and ending the night with a campfire and a delicious s’more. Kayelin loves her son more and more every day and appreciates how he continues to show her how good of a job she is doing at being his mama.

As a single income household, it has been increasingly difficult for Kayelin to pay more than 1/3 of her income on rent. “Our current economic state makes it hard for families like us to afford a home as an investment for our future,” Kayelin says. The Habitat program provides an opportunity for her to achieve her dream of owning a home for her and her son’s future. “With Habitat, this dream can come true, and we give a big thank you to all of our support team!” Kayelin exclaimed.

Having a home with Habitat will bring a different perspective to owning property for Kayelin. She sees herself developing different character traits, not just a physical place to live. Kayelin believes that owning a Habitat home will change her and her son’s future for the better. She says, “To me, having a home means I can serve others endlessly with what the lord has given me. Having people over, cooking, spending time with them, making memories, roasting marshmallows, being the ‘neighborhood mom,’ all these things mean so much to me, and I am excited to share my space with others and to be able to call it our own!”
