For Shalonda Bellamy, becoming a Habitat homeowner is about creating stability and a safe space for her son, Daniel. Shalonda works tirelessly as an EFDA at Bardmoor Family Dental and as a supervisor at Orlando Health Hospital, balancing two demanding roles for the past several years. “After having my son at an early age, my goal has always been to provide, protect, and keep shelter over his head,” she says. “I work 6–7 days a week to make sure he has everything he needs to reach his dreams.”
Daniel, now 12, has big aspirations of his own. He’s been playing football since he was six years old and has held the quarterback position since he was eight. “He loves football, being around his friends and family, and playing video games,” Shalonda shares proudly. Supporting his goals is one of her greatest motivations.
Their current living situation has been challenging. “We’ve outgrown our apartment,” Shalonda explains. “I live downstairs where I hear everything upstairs, and my dog constantly barks from the noise. My neighbors are older and often need ambulances called. I just want my son to be in a safe environment and have something we can truly call ours.”
When Shalonda learned she was accepted into the Habitat program, she was overcome with emotion. “I was in shock, emotional, and couldn’t believe my dream was coming true,” she recalls. For her, this opportunity means more than a house; it means security, peace, and a chance to teach Daniel that hard work and dedication make dreams possible. “I imagine my life having stability and showing my son that dreams actually come true,” she says.
Shalonda looks forward to creating lasting memories in her new home. “My house will be everything I’ve imagined—filled with love and laughter,” she says. “Home is where me and my son can live safe, secure, and comfortable.”
