Habitat partners with HGTV’s ‘100 Day Dream Home’

Habitat for Humanity Tampa Bay Gulfside is partnering with HGTV’s 100 Day Dream Home for an upcoming episode to air in 2025. 100 Day Dream Home – a top-rated show for HGTV – is hosted by Tampa couple Brian and Mika Kleinschmidt. The premise of the show is for Brian and Mika to work with a family that is ready to build their dream home in the Tampa Bay area and show the ups and downs of construction all within a 100 day window. Brian and Mika had been looking for new and unique stories to bring to a national audience for season six.

Enter Habitat.

Over the summer, Habitat’s team formed a relationship with Brian and Mika. Brian had done some volunteering with Habitat when he was in college at UCF. When Habitat Tampa Bay Gulfside reached out, the couple was excited to learn more about the homeownership program and all the requirements Habitat partner families must complete to earn the keys to their home. Habitat president and CEO Mike Sutton invited Brian and Mika to the Habitat offices in Clearwater to share more about the affiliate and the mission. The presentation included details about the rigorous 36 homebuyer education classes that setup homeowners for a lifetime of success, as well as the 350-450 sweat equity hours that partner families put into building their home and other Habitat homes in their journey.

“As we presented the information to Brian and Mika, you just saw the appreciation for what our homeowners have to do to earn their home,” said Sutton. “We could see that this wouldn’t just be another episode for them. This would be a real passion project that helps us clear up misconceptions about Habitat and also show the homeownership journey from one of our partner family’s perspective.”

The homeowner partner paired with 100 Day Dream Home is the Simmons Family. Lace Simmons is a single mom of two daughters – Liana and Kalynn – and a Product Specialist for Crown Kia. Lace’s goal is to provide a safe and nurturing environment for her daughters as they continue to learn and grow in high school and college. The Simmons Family currently rents a home that has many issues, included leaks and a dilapidated garage. For Lace, being in the Habitat program has provided a different level of confidence.

“Habitat saw something in me that I did not see in myself,” said Lace. “I am so honored that Habitat could see the vision I had for my family and was willing to offer me a hand up to achieve this dream.”

On Thursday, December 5th, 100 Day Dream Home began filming with Habitat on the future home site of the Simmons Family in St. Petersburg. Brian and Mika helped Lace and her daughters break ground on their Habitat home build. Over the next 3-4 months HGTV will feature key elements of the Habitat build process and important milestones for Lace on her journey to affordable homeownership.

The Simmons Family home will also have a special sponsor – Habitat’s CEO Build. The 2025 CEO Build will be Habitat’s 4th annual build with local leaders coming together to provide the financial resources to build the home and put in sweat equity by volunteering on exclusive CEO Build Days. This year, there will be 75 leaders from around the Tampa Bay region taking part in the CEO Build.  The CEO Build will be highlighted as part of Habitat’s 100 Day Dream Home episode.
