TaKara Lewis, a hardworking single mother, is on an inspiring journey with Habitat for Humanity to create a stable future for herself and her 1-year-old daughter, Allure. As a Sales Coordinator at Waste Connections, TaKara has dedicated herself to building a better life for her little family. “I’ve always been determined and hardworking,” she shares. “My optimistic outlook helps me push through any situation, good or bad. My daughter and I might not be in the best living situation right now, but I’m doing all that I can to get us into a better one.”
Life has presented TaKara with significant challenges since becoming a single mother. Due to rising rent costs and high daycare expenses, she faced a tough decision: to either keep up with rent or afford quality childcare for Allure. “I couldn’t do both, and that pushed me into a hard place,” she explains. Luckily, her family stepped in to provide shelter when she needed it most, allowing her to save up and get back on her feet. “I honestly don’t know where we’d be without my family’s support,” TaKara says. Being part of Habitat for Humanity has given her a renewed sense of hope and the chance to achieve her dream of homeownership.
Finding out she was accepted into the Habitat program felt like a turning point. “I was so excited and grateful. It felt like a light was finally peeking through at the end of the tunnel,” she recalls. TaKara is eager to work alongside others in the program, forming connections with people who share her dream of building a secure and lasting home.
TaKara envisions a future filled with joy and stability in her Habitat home. “I can’t wait to call this place mine, something I can pass down to Allure,” she says with pride. She dreams of creating a safe, happy environment where her daughter can grow up with security and love. “My house will be the start of building a legacy for my family. It’s a place for generations to come,” she reflects. TaKara is especially excited to watch her daughter play freely, knowing they’re in a space she worked hard to create.
