Ashley and Rashay Riggs are on a life-changing path with Habitat for Humanity to create a stable and secure future for their family. Raising two teenage sons, Rashay Jr. (16) and Avyon (14), the couple has faced challenges with rising rental costs but remains united in their mission to build a better life. “We are very close and family-oriented,” Ashley shares. “We love spending time together, going on family trips, watching movies, and playing board games.” Their sons are deeply passionate about their interests—Rashay Jr. plays baseball and enjoys chess, while Avyon is drawn to art and playing the drums. Both boys are avid gamers and love hanging out with friends.
The Riggs family’s housing situation took a difficult turn when rising rent forced them to take in a family member as a roommate. This meant that their two sons, who once had their own rooms, suddenly had to share a space. “It was really difficult for our oldest son,” Ashley explains. “Having such a small space impacted his ability to focus and concentrate on his studies.” With financial strain increasing each year due to rising rent, Ashley and Rashay knew they had to find a long-term solution that would provide their family with the stability they deserved.
When they received the news that they had been accepted into the Habitat program, their emotions were overwhelming. “Our prayers have been answered,” Ashley recalls. “We prayed for change to come, and Habitat answered our prayers. Now, we have hope for a brighter future for our family.”
Looking ahead, Ashley and Rashay are excited to have a home they can truly call their own. “We’re most looking forward to being able to live comfortably in something that is ours and decorate it the way we want to,” Ashley shares. More than just a house, they see this home as their sanctuary. “Our house will be our forever home—filled with peace and love,” Rashay adds. The lessons they learn through the Habitat program will not only help them become successful homeowners but will also provide them with the tools to maintain their home for years to come.
